To what extent did he require an audience?
I presume that in an empty office he might not have been so 'expressive'.
The audience of his office colleagues is complicit with him in remaining, presumably compelled to watch (enthralled in fascination) and yet also concerned to stay at a safe 'viewing distance'.
The web, courtesy of CCTV+YouTube, now provides an extended audience (which he and others are likely to become aware of and be tempted to play to).
It does play as if a chimpanzee is having a tantrum/dominance display in the appreciative gaze of its troupe - females clustering, and males occasionally challenging.
More material for Dr. Michael Wesch's anthropological study of YouTube.
