Blogging this aboard a train from Wales to London; on my way back from one of the most amazing events I have attended in a long time: DoLectures in Cardigan, Wales (UK); see more details at their blog, here. I was invited to speak on one of my key topics: the switch from EGOsystems to ECOsystems - here is the PDF, below. Video to follow shortly.

Gerd Leonhard talk at the Imaging The Future Symposium 2010
Prior to my talk at the Future of Digital Marketing conference in London, June 16, 2010 here is a quick audio preview of what I will talk about (if I can stay on-topic;). Stay tuned as I will publish the PDF after the event, here and of course on Slideshare.

I am delighted to be back in Dublin for this June 11 event organized by the Contemporary Music Centre. I will be speaking about "The Future of Music: Mobile, Video, Social, and...Paid?"
"With access to music now just a click away for most of us, very few of the tried and tested ways of accessing music remain unchanged. Can we, or should we, attempt to predict the future? Have we even begun to deal with the present yet? This major conference brings together high-level international speakers to explore and debate issues around the meaning of digital culture; how it impacts on the creator and the performer; and the implications for copyright in a world which has come to expect music to be free"
Who should attend: creative artists and organizations engaged in any area of
composition, performance, publishing or distribution across all forms of
music in Ireland.
Other Speakers
• Ms Mary Hanafin, TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport
Official opening
• Prof Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, University of Limerick, Ireland, and CMC Board
Keynote address
• Andrew Dubber, Reader in Music Industries Innovation, Birmingham City University, Great Britain
• Bill Whelan, Composer, Ireland
Ireland and the Global Culture Market: A Creator's View
Together with my colleague and Swiss leadership guru Didier Marlier I have been doing some interesting work with one of the leading business schools in Brazil, Fundacao Dom Cabral (more on that soon!). The last time I was there I also managed to do a very special engagement for the very cool people at the NBS agency, see the details and PDF here.
Via the NBS gig and via Twitter (of course), I was introduced to the people that program one of the most accomplished and popular talk-shows on Brazilian Public TV, called Roda Viva, on the TVCultura channel. The show involves sitting in the midst of a circle of 10-15 very smart people that quite literally 'grill' you on some pretty tough issues (in my case, as you may have guessed, the future of content, copyright, marketing, social media etc).
The full video should be available via Roda Viva fairly soon; in the meantime I just discovered an entire set of some pretty good pictures that their really talented photographer (Duda Groisman took during the filming, embedded via the amazing Flickr widgets, below. Enjoy. And stay tuned.
Next2010 looks like a very promising event; the main topic this year is 'Game Changers' - certainly a good fit for my own work;). I will most likely do a keynote speech on "The next 3 years: major game changers for content, entertainment and media" - and if I can make the switch before that date this may be the first gig where I will be presenting in an entirely new way, possibly using a new device that Apple is launching in April....;)
Stowe Boyd will be there, too, plus Umair Haque, Steve Rubel and Brian Solis - some of my favorite colleagues and fellow game changers (or...rather... changees?). Join us.
Updated: this post now includes Dominic Pride's presentation, embedded below. I also just added the audio version of my presentation (sorry for the rather poor quality), as well as the front-row-shoot with a video of my presentation, below; please note that this is the 'unofficial version', quickly recorded with my Kodak Zi8 - better quality video to follow soon. Clive Rich's presentation is embedded below.
Gerd Leonhard at Future of Books event London March 19
Below is the link to the PDF with my edited presentation from today's Books 2.0 event at Olswang in London. I will add the slideshare embed code and file download options later, today (very slow connection here at the Hilton;), and we will have Clive's and Dominic's slides available as well; videos should follow within a few days, too. This was a really inspiring event, a great and very clued-in audience, beautiful location (Olswang London), and a perfect combination of different view-points by the 3 of us. More comments are available via the Twitter stream and via #books20 hashtag. Some of the topics I covered included: the toxic assumptions of the music industry and what book publishers could learn from them, the reality of upside-down consumers (digital access first), the ecology of selling access vs selling copies, the Napster-Moment in eBooks - and what to do about (or rather, with) it, the characteristics of 'Reading 2.0', the new definition of books, media as a service and the potentials of 'content in the cloud', the future role of publishers... and much more. 32MB PDF: files.me.com/gleonhard/
Here are 4 'scenes' from my upcoming presentation at the Books 2.0 event in London, March 19. I still have a few seats reserved for my tweeps and blog-readers - ping me if you are interested (yes, it's still a free event;). I will publish my slides on this blog, via Slideshare, and via Twitter, sometime in the afternoon of that day. Stay tuned. The Twitter Hashtag is #books20 and the Twitter-Stream is here.
Alan Moore and me are very much looking forward to our 1st Online Seminar on "Thriving in Social Media and the connected web", today, March 1, at 1pm EST. We still have a few tickets available (nope, it's not entirely free;), just go here to register. If you feel that you absolutely must have a discount code, please do contact me.
To avoid any confusion, 1pm EST means:
The event will take place on the new DimDim webinar platform which requires nothing but a good browser (e.g. Firefox;). The session will have Alan and myself on video, and audio, during the entire time, plus all participants can use the chat windows to ask questions throughout the entire session (approx. 90 minutes). We will be recording the whole thing (if the technology keeps its promises) and shall make the video available to all participants, afterward.
We will be something between 30 to 50 people for this event which is a fantastic start. Hope to see you there. For more information click here: Online seminar with Gerd Leonhard & Alan Moore: thriving commercially in social media and the networked society
I just ran across some really nice presentations from the O'Reilly TOC (Tools of Change) conference that went down in NY last week. I could not attend because of my trip to Brazil but this event looks like a great success, judging by these videos. Here is my selection of best videos:
Keynote Speaker, Think-Tank Leader, Futurist, Author & Strategist, Idea Curator, some say Iconoclast | Heretic, CEO TheFuturesAgency, Visiting Prof FDC Brazil, Green Futurist
